Sure, you’re already familiar with workout recovery tech: from the compression boots that wrap like sleeves around your legs to the infrared sauna blankets that speed up caloric burn and encourage your body enter a state of post-exertion equilibrium. But there’s a new innovation on the market that’ll completely shake up this wellness category. It’s the Hyperboot, a collaboration between Nike and Hyperice, engineered to help you achieve optimal performance and recover faster this season, no matter where you find yourself on any given day.
It’s safe to say this launch, available at nike.com and hyperice.com, was a long time coming. Announced late last spring after years of R&D, its prototype first reached the hands (erm, feet) of Paris 2024 Olympians like Sha’Carri Richardson and other major athletes like Jaden Daniels. The boot’s biggest flex? Allowing users to be mobile while reaping all the benefits, unlike competitor products that require sitting or lying down during sessions at the gym or at home.
The Nike x Hyperice Hyperboot works in the following way: A system of dual-air bladders initializes a dynamic air-compression massage that works by moving pressure upwards, at the same time as heat is distributed throughout the shoe’s upper (modeled to resemble a Nike high-top). Though you can choose to treat your feet and ankles to heat and compression separately, their combination is the true sweet spot: making heat permeate deep into the muscle tissue, thereby leading to a boost in blood circulation and relief from stiffness. The innovation was created with both recoveries and warmups in mind, making sure everyone — from the D1 athlete to the person who stands a lot as part of their daily work — can, quite simply, feel better, while also reducing the likelihood of injuries.
The Hyperboot’s arrival on the Nike scene makes it the latest addition to the sports company’s Recovery Collection: joined by the buzzy ReactX Rejuven8 Slides, ReactX Rejuven8 Shoes, a training mat, and a foam roller bar. The Hyperboot, though, is unlike anything that we’ve ever seen from the Swoosh brand, and a lot of that newness can be credited to Nike’s collaborator: Hyperice.
Founded in 2011, Hyperice’s mission is “to help everyone on Earth move better, live better, and be better,” and it’s meeting that goal via massage balls for tension release, wearable devices providing contrast therapy treatment, ice compression wraps, and more products in the health tech space. Its Normatec compression boots were used as a framework and jumping-off point for the Nike x Hyperice Hyperboot (in fact, those dual-air bladders directly carried over from Hyperice’s popular Normatec line). The Nike touch here is evident in the product’s sleekness and ability to be worn when on the go, almost like your favorite pair of Nike Airs, including while waiting to board your flight — they’re TSA-approved! — and when quickly wrapping up household chores before your daily workout, as each Hyperboot session is programmed for only 15 minutes.
Those of us who are typically intimidated by frou-frou gadgets that merge tech and health need not worry: One of the biggest draws of the brand-new Hyperboot is that it has an almost nonexistent learning curve. Four buttons on each heel are responsible for turning the device on or off, pausing it, and manipulating either heat or compression (there are three intensity levels to choose from for each). Want an even easier experience? Downloading the Hyperice app and connecting to your recovery boot pair via Bluetooth will allow you to play around with its settings on your phone. The kicks are battery-operated and rechargeable via USB-C.

Once you get a sense of the Nike x Hyperice Hyperboot’s magic, you’ll no doubt want to share it with the world at large. And that, dear reader, is very much possible. Feel free to simply step out into the street wearing your Nike latest and greatest, as the booties have a ready-for-the-outdoors outsole and can even handle splashes of water.
